Classroom Information

General Information

To keep you in the loop with classroom events, please check your emails frequently. I will send a weekly update via email. Second grade is going to be a fantastic adventure and you are a key part of your child’s success!

Blue Take Home Folder

Your second grader will have a blue take home folder that will come home every day. This folder will contain notes from the school and completed assignments. Students should bring this folder back to school with them every day.

Classroom Rules and Behavior

We have four important rules in our classroom: Use grit, work together, make smart choices and be nice. We will SOAR when we all try our best with following these four rules!

We will go over each rule in class and practice these expectations daily.  Positive behavior will be rewarded with “Gates Gold” which can be then be spent at our class store once a month.

Healthy  Snacks

Second grade is a NUT FREE ZONE. Please do not send any snacks to school that contains nuts of any kind. Students are encouraged to bring two small healthy snacks to school each day (2nd graders get hungry!) Some healthy snack ideas include: applesauce, fruit, vegetables, yogurt, tortilla chips, pretzels, popcorn, raisins, crackers, bagel chips, and granola bars. More Healthy Snack Ideas

One fun way we like to celebrate birthdays is called “Books & Birthdays”. Students are encouraged to bring in a copy of their favorite picture book to share with the class on their birthday. The book can then stay in our class library for students to read for many years to come! Look for more information around the time of your child’s birthday. Note: If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate in May.

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are always welcome in our class. In fact, we love them! Look for more information during the month of September. In the meantime, please complete this BACKGROUND CHECK if you would like to volunteer at any time in our classroom.
